Greater Sudbury firefighters are still on the scene at Cambrian College on Thursday morning after power outages began between 7 and 7:30 a.m.
An electrical fire and subsequent power outage Thursday morning closed Cambrian College in Sudbury for the day.

Greater Sudbury Utilities spokesperson Claude Sharma said the fire broke out early this morning, causing the power to go out at 7;45 a.m.
“There was an electrical fire at one of the residence buildings at Cambrian College,” Sharma said in an email.
“Power was restored at 9:58 a.m. to the entire College except to the area where the fire started. Power is still off in that residence. Estimated time of restoration for that building is still unknown.”
College spokesperson Dan Lessard said in an email that firefighters remain on the scene as a safety precaution.
“Greater Sudbury Utilities are also onsite and in the process of addressing the problem,” Lessard said.
“As a result, Cambrian’s Barrydowne campus will be closed for the remainder of the day. Some classes may continue virtually on a case-by-case basis, and faculty have been communicating with students.”
Students are encouraged to check for updates on their Moodle student information system, he added.
