Police in Sudbury, Ont., have charged an Ottawa man with attempted murder after a home invasion sent one person to hospital in critical condition Monday.
Officers were called to a home on Frood Road in the city’s Donovan area shortly after 5 a.m. after “multiple individuals broke into the residence and assaulted one of the residents,” police said in a news release Tuesday morning.
A 30-year-old man was found with life-threatening injuries and taken to hospital.
One suspect who matched the description given by witnesses was found nearby and arrested.
“Upon searching the individual, officers located approximately 50 grams of what is believed to be fentanyl and around $990 in cash,” police said.
“The estimated street value of the drugs is $1,000.”
In addition to attempted murder, the 18-year-old suspect is also charged with having a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited weapon, drug trafficking, break and enter with intent and having proceeds of crime.
“This incident is believed to be an isolated and targeted incident,” police said.
Police are looking to identify and locate at least one other male suspect.
“Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-8477,” police said.
The accused attended bail court Feb. 3 to answer to the charges.
Later on Monday, police were called to investigate a stabbing in the nearby Flour Mill area.
There is no indication there is any connection between the two violent incidents.
