OPP establishes dedicated tip line, continues to solicit help with northern Ont. sudden death investigation

The Ontario Provincial Police’s (OPP) East Algoma detachment is continuing to investigate the death of 52-year-old Corey Hynes from Greater Sudbury, Ont., whose body was discovered on Jan. 6, near P Line Road in Jocelyn Township.

Police were called to the scene at approximately 2:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a deceased person. The East Algoma detachment is continuing its investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

On Jan. 22, a 49-year-old man from Sudbury was charged with accessory to murder after the fact and indignity to a dead body.

Police in their previous news releases have assured the public there is no ongoing threat to safety.

“Further information will be released as it becomes available,” said OPP.

In an effort to gather additional information, OPP established a dedicated toll-free tip line at 1-833-941-9960 and partnered with Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District to solicit more information from the public.

OPP investigators are urging anyone with video or dash camera footage of P Line Road or nearby areas between 9 a.m. Jan. 4 and 3:15 p.m. Jan. 6 to upload the recordings online here.

“If you can identify the suspect(s) and your tip leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a cash reward,” said Crime Stoppers in a news release this week.
