One charged with impaired after northern Ont. police spot vehicle without lights

Some not getting the message on impaired driving Since the start of the Festive RIDE campaign in mid-November provincial police in our region have charged 87 people with impaired driving.

A 22-year-old from Elliot Lake has been charged after Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle that didn’t have headlights turned on.

The incident took place around 10:15 p.m. on June 29 on Laprairie Crescent.

“The vehicle stop was conducted (and) the driver was spoken to who exhibited signs of impairment by alcohol,” the OPP said in a news release Monday.

“They were subsequently arrested and charged and the vehicle was towed and impounded.”

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Aug. 15.

“The OPP reminds motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive,” police said.

“Report impaired drivers. Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.”
