Scientists with the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) have confirmed that a funnel cloud spotted Tuesday afternoon near the Manitoulin Island community of Little Current was a tornado.
The twister was recorded by several witnesses on Facebook and some photos were sent to CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca by camper Maggie McMurray.
"My neighbour called our attention to it, she was fishing and we were working on our water line. We quickly left the water," McMurray told CTVNews.
The pictures were taken around 3:55 - 3:56 p.m.
"The visual evidence shows a long funnel cloud accompanied by a spray vortex at the surface. So far, there is no evidence that the tornado moved over land," the Northern Tornadoes Project said in a Facebook post.
