Northern Ont. victim lost $74K in fraud case, suspect charged

A 21-year-old man from Huntsville has been charged after a victim from Temiskaming Shores was defrauded of about $74,000.

The money was taken in a combination of online and in-person scams, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.

The investigation began Feb. 25 and officers determined that the victim had lost about $74,000.

The OPP arrested the suspect March 11, with the assistance of the Provincial Operational Intelligence Bureau.

He has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and has a court date of April 8 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury.
