Efforts to reduce impaired driving in the northeast seem to be working in some communities – provincial police say stats are still high.

An obstructed licence plate led to impaired driving charges and more for a northern Ontario man.

On Feb. 2 at about 11 p.m., officers with the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment pulled over a vehicle for having an obstructed licence plate on Fontaine Drive in Hearst, Ont., said police in a news release.

Officers determined that the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance.

“The individual was placed under arrest and transported to the Hearst OPP detachment for further testing,” OPP said.
