The North Bay Police Service says it is aware of reports of an assault outside a school Tuesday afternoon.

A video making the rounds on social media appears to show one student grabbing another, throwing them to the ground and stomping on their head two times.

The student then walks away, leaving the victim on the ground. The incident took place at Chippewa Secondary School, the victim’s grandmother told CTV News.

Near North District School Board confirmed Thursday in an email it is aware of an “incident that took place on March 18 at Chippewa Secondary School.”

"The incident is under investigation and will be addressed according to the board’s Student Conduct Management Administrative Guideline," the school board told CTV News in an email.

Victim able to return to class

“Our officers are currently investigating the incident. I cannot release any additional information at this time,” police spokesperson David Woolley said in an email Thursday.

The grandmother of the victim told CTV reporter Eric Taschner that her grandson was able to return to school Thursday.

He is “sore and hurting, but he went today,” she said in a message.
