New smoke stacks at Sudbury mine Two new smoke stacks are being built so that Sudbury’s Superstack can be decommissioned.

If you live in Sudbury you may have noticed the Superstack has been belching less frequently lately.

Also, two new stacks are starting to rise from the Copper Cliff complex.

It's all part of Vale's $1-billion Clean Atmospheric Emissions Reduction Project.

Construction is expected to be done by September.

It's designed to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by 85% and metal particulate emissions by 40%.

The Superstack will be decommissioned in 2020 and demolition will begin shortly after that.
