A Thunder Bay man is facing multiple charges after an automated licence plate reader alerted police to an expired plate, last week.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers pulled over the 46-year-old on Highway 11 in Geraldton at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, police said in a news release.

“Through investigation, the officer observed several cases of tobacco products,” said police," OPP said.

“It was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle was over the legal limit and had no permit for the tobacco.”

Officers seized 13 cases of chewing tobacco.

As a result, the driver was charged with possession of untaxed tobacco and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
