Kitchen fire in Sudbury's south end Saturday

Published:

Escape plans are important, fire officials say Northern Ontario fire services are reminding residents of the importance of creating and practicing an escape plan in case of a fire.

Saturday evening, firefighters responded to a call in Greater Sudbury’s south end, where they were met with heavy smoke.

“At approximately 1800 hrs, Long Lake, Downtown, and Minnow Lake crews, along with PC1 and Sudbury EMS responded to a house fire off Paris Street in the south end,” said the Sudbury Professional Fire Fighters Association in a Facebook post on Saturday.

“(With) the first arriving engine was on scene within minutes.”

Fire crews quickly made entry to the unit where they were met with heavy smoke.

The fire was located in the kitchen of the row house.

Crews outside established a water supply and supported interior crews

“The fire was quickly controlled and contained to the single unit of the row house,” said the association.

“However, smoke from adjacent units had to be cleared.”

In a message to CTV News, Deputy Fire Chief Jesse Oshell said the fire is not considered suspicious.

Fire officials confirmed all occupants of the units made it out safely and there are no injuries reported.

The firefighter association is reminding area residents to check smoke alarms and change their batteries this weekend.
