Highway 11 reopens after being closed for more than 12 hours

Updates on two fatal crashes in the northeast There have been two motor vehicle crash related fatalities in the northeast since Friday evening, in two separate incidents.

Highway 11 has reopened after being closed for more than 12 hours Friday due to a fatal two-vehicle collision in Bowman Township just south of Matheson.

On ‘X,’ formerly Twitter, the Ministry of Transportation's (MTO) 511 Traveller Information Service indicated the collision just after 5:30 a.m.

The highway was closed between North Road North in Matheson and Teal Road East in Ramore. Police nor the ministry provided any detours during the lengthy closure.

“One person has died in a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11,” said the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in a news release Friday morning.

“The investigation is ongoing.”

Members of the Iroquois Falls OPP detachment and the traffic incident management enforcement team along with MTO officials were on scene most of the day.

Police indicated on their social media accounts that the roadway reopened after 6 p.m. Friday evening.

Police have not released any details on the victim, the cause of the crash or if there are any other injuries.
