Greater Sudbury on pace for another record road construction year

City of Greater Sudbury staff say the city has had an exciting construction season so far – with only a couple of months left where work can be done.

As of the end of August, city officials told CTV News that about $40 million had been spent on road construction meaning the municipality is on pace to match last year’s $70 million construction season.

Road projects for 2024 have so far included repairing and improving the lanes along Paris Street – including the Bridge of Nations.

Another key project that is upcoming for the city is improving water, sanitary and storm flows in New Sudbury along Lasalle Boulevard and Elisabella Street.

"We've also been doing some work on the Paris–Notre Dame active transportation network, we're in phase three and it's going to go to the end of next year,” said David Shelsted, the city’s director of engineering services.

“Once that's done we're actually going to provide a cycling connection from Lasalle all the way to Walford Road via Bell Park for a section of that."

Shelsted added that work will continue to improve sanitary sewers throughout the Lively community next year along with work on some water mains on Old Skead Road and Road work past the city’s airport.
