Hwy. 11 reopens after a fatal crash Monday morning, police appeal for witnesses

OPP say one person was killed in a crash involving two passenger vehicles on Highway 11 just east of Fauquier on Monday morning.

Highway 11 was closed between Kapuskasing and Smooth Rock Falls from before 8 a.m. until almost 6 p.m. on Monday because of a fatal collision.

Ontario Provincial Police and Cochrane District Ambulance responded around 7:30 a.m. to the crash just east of Fauquier involving two passenger vehicles.

“One person has been pronounced deceased at the scene, and one more has been transported to a local hospital by ambulance,” police said in a news release.

In an update, police advised that the deceased is a 71-year-old from Lantzville, B.C.

“The OPP’s traffic incident management enforcement team is assisting with the investigation, and the highway is currently closed between Kapuskasing and Smooth Rock Falls.”

The OPP is requesting any witnesses to the crash to contact police at 1-888-310-1122.

The highway was closed for about 10 hours as investigators worked at the scene.

According to the Ministry of Transportation’s Ontario 511 the highway reopened just after 5:47 p.m.

Police have not released any details on the cause of the crash, the status or identities of other individuals involved or if any charges are pending.

“Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available,” OPP said.
