Dynamic Earth celebrated a milestone Wednesday: the 20th anniversary of the organization, which started as the site of the Big Nickel Mine.
“We always had a big vision that some day we would open a real science centre on that site where we would have on-site galleries, we would have surface galleries, we would become the headquarters for engaging our community with the mining industry,” said CEO Ashley Larose.
“Earth sciences and that mining story, it’s an important story to tell,” said senior scientist Jennifer Beaudry.
“I’m really happy that we’re able to do that now and keep doing that in the future, especially with our Go Deeper project.”
To be unveiled in summer 2024 is a new initiative that will be part of the Go Deeper project.
“That will lead into a beautiful new multi-purpose space, so think the Vale cavern at Science North but here at Dynamic Earth,” Larose said.
“Visitors will really get to engage with what it’s really like to work in a modern mine.”
A new digital game – Mine Evolution -- is also in the works with a launch date later this year.
“(It’s) going to launch officially in September,” Beaudry said.
“The general public, you can download and have a lot of fun. It’s free. And in September we’re also launching modules that are educational, modules that are pan-Canadian, curriculum-linked.”
