Sudbury — The Osprey Links Charity Golf Gala, presented by OneLife Wealth Management, has raised $34,500 for the Cancer Care, Close to Home campaign.
In the past 22 years, the tournament has raised more than $400,000 for the community’s greatest medical equipment needs at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
Platinum sponsor, OneLife Wealth Management’s Sylvain Côté and Shawn Flindall, helped launch the tournament. Honorary tournament co-chair, former Ontario Premier Michael Harris, opened the tournament with a ceremony on the putting green.
“Under the most unusual circumstances of a pandemic, we are reminded of the incredible importance of our hospital, healthcare workers and frontline workers," Harris said in a news release Thursday. "This year’s tournament may look and feel a little different than year’s past, but one thing remains constant: we are proud to be supporting our hospital and the care of the people in our community."
Longstanding tradition
Barbara Minogue thanked participants for supporting the tournament and for continuing the longstanding tradition of friendship, camaraderie and a round of golf for a community cause.
“My late husband Peter and I found great satisfaction in rallying our community for impactful charities that serve our friends, families and loved ones. Our hospital has always been one of our top priorities,’ Minogue said.
In January, the Cancer Care, Close to Home campaign celebrated its victory, raising $6.3 million.
“We are grateful for the community leaders who championed this campaign and for the donors who are giving so generously so that we can provide the best possible patient care locally,” said Paul Heinrich, president and CEO of NBRHC.
Tammy Morison, president & CEO, NBRHC Foundation, thanked the golfers, sponsors and volunteers who made the tournament a success during untraditional circumstances.
Advanced equipment
“We are thankful that so many of our loyal participants were able to join us for the tournament – at a safe distance. Health care is truly a partnership between the government, hospital and community. Together we can ensure our community has access to advanced medical equipment and the care they need,” said Morison.
The tournament’s silent auction can be found at www.golfgalaauction.ca and is open to bids from the community until Friday, Aug. 21, at 3 p.m.
