Driver charged with stunt driving after doing doughnuts in a parking lot

They snow hasn't started to fly in our area yet, but officials who keep an eye on our roads want you to start to think ahead.

A 20-year-old man from Marathon, Ont., has been charged with stunt driving following an incident in a local parking lot last week.

On Thursday, Jan. 24, 2025, shortly after noon, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marathon detachment responded to a report of a vehicle “performing doughnuts” in a parking lot near Jackson Crescent.

Through their investigation, police identified and charged the driver with stunt driving. The accused also received an immediate 30-day administrative driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for 14 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Marathon.

In a statement, the OPP emphasized their commitment to road safety.

“The OPP and its traffic safety partners remain dedicated to saving lives on our roads,” the statement read.

“Drivers, passengers, and other road users can significantly contribute to safe roads by avoiding risks and complying with all traffic laws.”
