Montreal police (SPVM) say they have arrested two suspects in connection with a murder that occurred in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough last week.

Dave Lambert Chouinard, 20, has been charged with second-degree murder, while 21-year-old Valdano Saint-Hillien faces charges of manslaughter and assault.

The accused were arrested Thursday night and appeared in court Friday, according to police.

On March 14, shortly after midnight, a 911 call was received regarding an injured person near the intersection of Ontario Street and Saint-Germain Street.

When officers arrived on the scene, they located the victim, 34-year-old Frederick Chartier-Levesque with stab wounds on his lower body. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

The men are scheduled to return to court on May 23, while Saint-Hillien also has a bail hearing on April 1.

It was Montreal’s fifth homicide of 2025.

Despite the arrests, the SPVM said the investigation remains ongoing.
