A man is fighting for his life Sunday morning after an overnight collision in Quebec City.
The Quebec City police service (SPVQ) said in a news release that the crash, which happened at the intersection of de Gironde Avenue and Jean-Talon East Boulevard, was reported to 911 at around 1:32 a.m.
Officers arrived at the scene to find three people inside a vehicle, including a seriously injured man. The other occupants were a woman and a baby.
First responders had to use the jaws of life to extract the man, who was in the back seat and suffered grave injuries.
All three were transported to hospital, and authorities fear for the man’s life.
According to initial reports, a first vehicle was travelling eastbound on Jean-Talon East Boulevard when it struck a second vehicle carrying the three occupants at the intersection with Avenue de Gironde.
The first vehicle then fled the scene.
SPVQ said officers searched the area and located the suspect vehicle not far from du Bourg-Royal Avenue and Louis XIV Boulevard.
The driver, a man in his forties, was arrested for hit-and-run causing bodily harm.
Two security perimeters were set up—one at the crash site and another where the suspect vehicle was found. Investigators and forensic identification officers remain at the scene to determine the circumstances of the crash.
