A 26-year-old man is facing multiple criminal charges after shots were fired in Longueuil on Montreal’s South Shore last December.

Jeffrey Thibeault, who was already in custody in connection with another firearms-related event, appeared at the Longueuil courthouse on Jan. 29 and 30.

“He is known to our services for violent crimes,” Longueuil police notes, adding it had received “several tips” from the public about the incident.

Thibeault faces multiple charges, including discharging a firearm, assault and aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence.

Longueuil police (SPAL) explains that in the early morning of Dec. 12, gunshots were heard near an apartment building on Beauregard Street.

“The location was known to police, and the two men knew each other,” the force notes. “A man in his 40s was shot in the lower body. The victim then took refuge in one of the apartments.”

The man was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The suspect, a man in his 20s, fled the scene on foot.
