An elderly couple is in hospital following a suspected assault in Montreal’s Saint-Leonard borough on Tuesday night.
Montreal police (SPVM) received several 911 calls at 9:30 p.m. about gunshots heard on Descartes Street near Couture Boulevard.
“When police arrived on the scene, they located two people, a 71-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man, who were injured to the upper body by physical force,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police. “No one was injured by gunshots.”
The two were transported to hospital to be treated for their injuries, which have been deemed non-life-threatening.
“The couple may have been assaulted by more than one suspect,” said Chèvrefils. “During the assault, a gunshot would have been fired and then the suspects would have fled in a vehicle before the arrival of police.”
There have been no arrests.
A security perimeter has been established, and the investigation is ongoing.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unknown.
