A 55-year-old man has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of an elderly man on Saturday in the municipality of Saint-Anicet, in Montérégie, around 45 kilometres southwest of Montreal

Provincial police (SQ) launched an investigation into the homicide after officers were called to a home on Chemin de la Rivière-La Guerre, where they discovered the lifeless body of a 79-year-old man.

The accused, Manuel Rouleau, was arrested at the scene and appeared virtually before a judge on Sunday.

Police have not confirmed the relationship between the victim and the Rouleau.
