Over 100 people came out for an outdoor skate event held at Storybook Gardens.

The event was put on by PHSS Medical and Complex Care in Community, a local non-profit, that provide 24/7 support to people who have high complex medical, developmental, and physical needs.

Previously known as Participation House Support Services, the group was rebranded to ‘PHSS.’

“We’re having fun,” said Brian Dunne, CEO of PHSS Medical and Complex Care in Community “This is our first attempt at skating for the people that we support and anybody else from the community who needs accessibility. And what a wonderful venue this is, thanks to our friends at the city for helping us, make this happen.”

The event brought families and their loved ones living with complex needs out skating at the Storybook Garden’s outdoor trail.

“It feels great to be out here. It was great to get an email and saying they were planning an outing for the kids,” said Noah’s mother, who was happy to be able to spend an evening out as a family.

Dunne said it’s important to be an inclusive community, and Thursday night’s activity demonstrated that everybody, regardless of their abilities, can be part of the community.

“We’re delighted to have volunteers for activities like this, [we] run many other activities that people can get involved in,” he explained.

Dunne said they are always looking for volunteers, people to sit on their board, and help with fundraising efforts.
