London Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was struck and killed in the south end Saturday evening.
Monday morning, pink carnations, placed by a passerby, rested on a think concrete median near the crash site.
Witnesses, including Lorraine Fay, heard sirens around 7:30 p.m.
“I stepped out onto the balcony just for some fresh air. I noticed a person on the island in the middle of the road with a walker.”
A few seconds later, Fay slipped back into her apartment.
“I had no sooner shut my door, and I heard a big thud and tires screeching.”
A police officer was quickly on scene doing chest compressions on the victim, reported to be an older male. Sadly, life-saving efforts failed.

Police say the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
In the wake of the crash police are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone with video of the crash.
Meanwhile, neighbours are expressing sympathy.
“I am sad to hear that someone actually lost their life”, stated Brandy Sampson, a long-time advocate for speed reduction, driver education, and design changes along Bradley Avenue.

She was injured in a 2022 crash at the intersection with Ernest.
In May 2024 after three people were hurt in another collision, Sampson contacted CTV News to warn the public about her concerns with intersection design and speeding drivers.
“It’s ridiculous how many incidents there are, and I really hope something improves, so this area is a lot safer.”

The circumstances of Saturday’s crash, just metres away from a pedestrian crossing, remain under investigation.
In the interim, Ward 12 Councillor Elizabeth Pelozza has reiterated a pledge to push for more police patrols and a red light camera.
Peloza also promises to inquire about additional safety measures.
Lorraine believes time is of the essence.
“People are not adhering to the rules of the road in terms of speed. This is costing people their lives.”
