The London Lighting will be playing in purple on Saturday - temporarily parting ways with their traditional yellow garb in support of the London Abused Women’s Centre for the annual ‘Purple Game.’

In a show of support, and to raise awareness about the issue of men’s violence against women, the Lightning have partnered with the London Abused Women’s Centre for over a decade.

“The London Lightning have been so supportive of our organization since their first ever season back in 2011,” said Jennifer Dunn, Executive Director of the London Abused Women’s Centre. “The players wear purple jerseys, they talk about the issues of violence against women, and really make a point to show the community and show women and girls that they’re not alone.”

Tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Canada Life Place, the Lightning will take on the Rhode Island Kraken, and fans are encouraged to join them in wearing purple to show support.

“You can definitely join us at the game, wear your purple - purple is a symbol of of courage and support, and we use that colour in our Shine the Light and Women Abuse campaign,” said Dunn.

They will also auction off their purple jerseys to fans, with proceeds going to the centre.

“We always look for opportunities where we can do more in the community,” smiled Dunn. “I am personally so grateful that this relationship has been able to continue with the London Lightning, so that we can continue to have this game and raise awareness in this way.”
