Stratford police say that they received over 40 reports of a scam caller contacting people in the area on Monday posing as the Stratford Police Service.

Police say that the scammers used a variety of methods to steal money and information from people, including telling people that there were warrants issued for their arrest, demanding money or information, or requesting funds to support crime prevention initiatives.

Stratford police issued a reminder to the community that they will never contact members of the public with requests of this nature, nor will any other government agency. The police will never call you asking for money or your personal information.

At this time, police say that they are not aware of any losses sustained as a result of the scam. Anyone that did suffer a loss is encouraged to contact police at (519) 271 - 4141 ext. 2 to file a report.
