Damaged police car leads to charges

Huron County OPP have laid charges related to a damaged police car in Wingham last week.

On Wednesday, police investigated the incident just before 10:30 p.m. OPP said a vehicle, which was parked and empty, was damaged.

The suspect was found, who ran from the area. He was arrested after a brief struggle. Police said after further investigation, they determined the suspect allegedly also moved storm drain covers, causing a safety issue for drivers and pedestrians.

The 28-year-old North Huron man is now facing charges for mischief under $5,000, Mischief – obstructs, interrupts, or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment, or operation of property, and resisting a peace officer. He was also charged with an alcohol related offence.
