Avoid unnecessary travel, winter storm moves in

CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison updates the afternoon forecast

Snowfall warnings are in effect in through Middlesex County into Lambton County, stretching through Huron and Perth and Bruce County under the winter storm warning.

Oxford County, Brant and Hamilton as well as the northern shoreline of Lake Erie, has aa freezing rain warning.

The evening commute will be a rough one as the snow is expected to intensify this evening, according to CTV News London Meteorologist.

“Now in terms of a snowfall amounts, we will see heavy snowfall overnight in the areas under the snowfall warning upwards of 15 to 25 centimeters. And the areas that are under the winter storm warning, we will see 25 to 35 centimeters of snowfall,” said Atchison.

The next 24-hour model shows the mixing of precipitation that’s along that northern shoreline of Lake Erie.

The temperature in through Essex County, Lambton, Sarnia, and London will start to come up as we head through the evening north of that here on in Perth.

“The temperature will stay well below the freezing mark, which will lead to a steady snowfall,” said Atchison. “We have all the ingredients, the cold air in place, the mixed precipitation off to the south that will lead to about two millimeters of ice accretion in and around St. Thomas and in the Haldimand Norfolk area.”
