A shoplifting complaint snowballed into extensive charges for a man in Sarnia, who was caught stealing from staff at a retail store in the 500 block of Exmouth Street.
According to police, the suspect had entered the staff room, and stole from staff member’s bags. Confronted by security, the man attempted to punch the guard in the face.
Security then disengaged the confrontation, and called the police.
The man then moved to the front of the store and punched at the windows, and threatened security.
Police found the man in a nearby parking lot where he was placed under arrest. He resisted, and attempted to flee on foot while in handcuffs.
A search of the man revealed a bag of pills, a scale, drug paraphernalia, two counterfeit $100 bills, a knife, and five shotgun shells.
The man was out on bail with conditions not to possess any weapons.
The 24-year-old of no fixed address was charged with robbery with violence, uttering threats, failure to comply with release order, resisting a peace officer, escape of lawful custody, careless storage of ammunition, possession of counterfeit, and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
The man was remanded into custody following his bail hearing.
