Theft of $20 worth of copper wire leaves developer on the hook for thousands of dollars in repairs

The Guelph Police Service said a copper wire theft could costs thousands of dollars in repairs.

Officers were called to a construction site near Speedvale Avenue West and Kathleen Street on Monday afternoon. They were told two homes that were under construction had been broke into over the weekend and copper wire had been taken.

Although the wire is worth only about $20, the site supervisor told police the homes need to be completely rewired. The work could cost $40,000 each.

Anyone with more information is asked to call police.
