Waterloo Catholic District School Board chair steps down

Published:

The Chair of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board has stepped down. CTV’s Jeff Pickel has more.

The Chair of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board has stepped down, effective immediately.

In an email, the school board confirmed Robert Sikora would no longer be acting as chair of the board, but he would continue to serve as a trustee.

Until a new chair can be elected, Vice-Chair Linda Cuff will be acting chair.

Sikora was elected as a trustee representing Cambridge and North Dumfries. He was first elected chair in 2023.

A special board meeting has been scheduled for April 14 to address the change.

The school board did not explain the reasoning behind the move.

Large demonstration outside board office

The decision comes just days after a massive protest outside the school board office after a trustee put forward a motion that would see the banning of Pride flags.

The board’s policy states the chair speaks for the board but he did not make any public comments after Monday’s meeting.

CTV News’ requests to speak with the chair about the Pride flag issue did not get returned.
