Two teenagers and one adult were arrested after attempting to rob a jewellery store at Waterloo’s Conestoga Mall Saturday evening.
In a release, the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) said just before 6 p.m. four males went to the mall holding duffel bags with their faces covered. Mall security saw them, called police and stopped them as they walked up to the jewellery store. The four suspects were escorted out of the mall by security as officers arrived. After seeing police, the four suspects tried to run away.
Police said two of the suspects were arrested right away and a third was arrested at a nearby business.
In an email to CTV News, police said a fourth male was arrested but released unconditionally after it was determined they were not connected to the incident. The fourth man involved in the attempted theft was able to get away from police in an unknown vehicle and is still on the loose.
WRPS said in part “At the time of their arrest, the three suspects were in possession of three empty hockey bags, two hammers, and two crowbars.”
No one was hurt.
An 18-year-old Toronto man, a 16-year-old Mississauga teen and a 17-year-old Brampton teen were charged with attempted robbery, disguise with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. The three suspects were held for a bail hearing.
