Ontario Provincial Police say two people from Huron County needed to be rescued from tractor Thursday after a flash flood left them stranded.

Just before 1 p.m., a distress call was made from Fern Hurst Glen Lane, south of Goderich and near the Maitland River.

The pair on the tractor said they were suddenly surrounded by cold, fast-moving water was that rising quickly around them.

Emergency teams responded to the area, including Huron OPP, Huron County EMS, the Goderich Fire Department, Lambton Shores Fire Department, the OPP Emergency Response Team and JRCC Trenton, as well as volunteers from Huron and Area Search and Rescue.

OPP said an inflatable boat was used to rescue the two people on the tractor.

Both were taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

“The OPP is reminding the public to be aware of the changing conditions in and around Huron County waterways, and especially the Lake Huron shoreline, as the vast amount of snow received this winter is expected to melt quickly in the next several days and weeks,” said OPP Const. Craig Soldan in a media release.
