The Kitchener Rangers hoped to keep their win streak going as they faced off against London. CTV's Krista Simpson has that, plus a returning team tradition.

The London Knights ended the Kitchener Rangers four-game winning streak on Tuesday night.

London took an early lead, getting the first point of the game on a power play.

Rangers Captain Matthew Andonovski scored in the second, with both Jakub Chromiak and Luca Romano credited with the assist, tying the match up 1-1.

The game-winning goal came from Knights forward Sam O’Reilly in the third.

Don Cameron Potato Night

Tuesday night marked the return of Don Cameron Potato Night, a tribute to the longtime play-by-play announcer who called more than 4,000 Kitchener Rangers games throughout his 10-year career. Cameron was also a sportscaster at CTV Kitchener for 19 years. He died in 2018 at the age of 82.

Potato Night was inspired by Cameron’s home province of Prince Edward Island and his dedication to helping hungry families in the community.

According to the Rangers organization, the equivalent of half-a-million pounds of potatoes were donated over the fundraiser’s 26-year history.

In 2024, the organization shifted its focus to cash donations, citing changing needs in the community.

Volunteers with the House of Friendship collected donations at the entrance doors of the Aud for their emergency food hamper program.
