Guelph could be hit with freezing rain again after Environment Canada reported that temperatures will drop Saturday night.
The agency put out a freezing rain warning for the Guelph area at 9:28 a.m.
Areas north of Kitchener and Cambridge are also under a special weather statement from Environment Canada, warning of the potential for freezing rain into Sunday morning. They said the rain accompanied with below freezing temperatures could cause a buildup of up to three to five millimetres of ice. Utility outages are also possible across the region.
Navigating slippery conditions
Environment Canada said slippery conditions are expected with any ice buildup. They advise the public to take extra care when walking or driving.
While driving, the agency said vehicles should watch for tail lights, keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and drive slower in slippery conditions.
Sergeant Ed Sanchuk echoed this message in a social media post Friday afternoon. He said drivers should keep their foot off the gas pedal, putting in an effort to not go too quickly.
“Get to where you’re going safely but more importantly get home safely to your families,” said Sanchuk.
Environment Canada said it’s best to postpone any non-essential travel until conditions improve.
