Get your shovels and snow blowers ready – southern Ontario is getting even more snow.

Environment Canada said the Region of Waterloo and Guelph, as well as communities further west, could get anywhere between 5 cm and 15 cm of the white stuff on Saturday. Another 5 cm may also fall on Sunday.

Areas south of Stratford, such as London, Sarnia and St. Thomas, are expected to get 5 cm to 10 cm of snow. The agency said it could turn into freezing drizzle by Saturday afternoon.

On Friday, a winter storm watch was issued for communities east of Waterloo Region, including Norfolk County, Brantford, Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area, as well as Montreal and Quebec City.

Winter weather travel advisory

Environment Canada has also put out a winter weather travel advisory for most of southern Ontario.

They said drivers could experience poor visibility and hazardous conditions on the roads Saturday afternoon due to the blowing snow and freezing drizzle.

The agency is advising drivers to avoid non-essential travel or take it easy when driving.

Waterloo Region declared a Significant Weather Event, beginning on Saturday at 4 p.m. They said in a release that drivers and bikers should expect delays, slippery conditions and poor visibility. They are advised to stay off the road into Sunday and only travel if necessary.

The Township of Wilmot declared a snow event in the area. They said it will begin at midnight on Sunday Feb. 16. They said residents should move their vehicles of the roads and keep the streets clear for snow removal. The snow event was extended for another 24 hours beginning at midnight on Monday and will remain in effect unless canceled or extended.

The City of Kitchener’s snow event begins at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday. The city extended the event on Sunday for another another day, ending on Monday at 11:59 p.m. Residents will not be allowed to park their vehicles on the street or risk getting ticketed or towed.
