Grand Erie Public Health is mourning the death of their Acting Medical Officer of Health.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the health unit announced the passing of Dr. Malcolm Lock.
Lock had spent more than 20 years working as a medical officer of health. Before that, he studied in Ireland and eventually relocated to Brantford where he set up a private practice.
“Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Lock served as the Medical Officer of Health for the Brant County Health Unit, Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit, and most recently as the Acting Medical Officer of Health for the newly formed Grand Erie Public Health. His dedication to individual patient care and broader public health initiatives will leave a lasting legacy,” the statement reads.
Lock worked as Brant County’s Medical Officer of Health during the SARS outbreak in 2002 and returned as Brant County’s Medical Officer of Health on a temporary basis in 2021 while the community was dealing with COVID-19. Most recently, he was working for Grand Erie Public Health, where more than 50 confirmed cases of measles have been reported.
