A man who has been captivating people with unique snow sculptures at his Waterloo, Ont. home has taken his art somewhere new – Yellowknife, N.W.T.

Matt Morris headed north to compete as part of a team at the Snowking Snow Carving Symposium held from Feb. 26 until March 3.

Artists from around the world gathered at Great Slave Lake to transform blocks of snow into a winter wonderland.

The theme of this year’s competition was ‘Medieval Lore.’

Morris’ team, called Ukraine/USA/Canada, included Bogdan Kutseyvich from Ukraine and Dave Rothstein from the United States.

Their piece was called ‘Plague Doctor’ and featured the iconic beaked mask worn by medieval physicians during epidemics.

In a social media post, Morris wrote, “So many new friends and new skills learned on my first ‘big block.”
