Family Day 2025: What’s open and what’s closed for the holiday

Ontario is one of only a few provinces that recognizes Family Day, so some businesses, stores and offices may be closed, while others will not be affected or have different hours of operation.

Here’s a look at what’s open, what’s closed and what’s changed in Waterloo Region and Guelph on Monday.

Warming centres at 150 Main Street in Cambridge and 150 Frederick Street in Kitchener will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Aud – The KW Titans take on the Jamestown Jackals at 2 p.m.

Regional museums:

  • Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum – Open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Schneider Haus National Historic Site – Open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • McDougall Cottage – Open for special event only

Kitchener facilities:

  • Breithaupt Centre and Pool – 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Bridgeport Community Centre – 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Free Family Day Event)

Transit

Grand River Transit (GRT) will operate Monday on a holiday service schedule and MobilityPLUS will operate as usual.

Guelph Transit will operate from 9:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. and stops will be on-demand, except Route 99 Mainline which runs every 30 minutes.

GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule. Metrolinx is, however, warning riders that GO buses may be delayed due to winter road conditions.
