A teenager from Kitchener is facing several charges after the Guelph Police Service said they caught a vehicle travelling at more than twice the speed limit and weaving through traffic.

An officer was conducting speed enforcement near the intersection of Gordon Street and Edinburgh Road South on Feb. 21 around 3:08 p.m.

Police said a teenaged driver was clocked at 100 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Police tried to pull him over, however the driver sped off, exceeding 110 km/h. Police said the driver swerved through traffic, ran a red light and narrowly avoided a head-on collision.

The pursuit was called off due to public safety concerns.

Police were later able to identify the driver and located him and his vehicle on March 5 at 2:16 p.m.

A 17-year-old boy from Kitchener was charged with flight from police, dangerous operation, stunt driving and speeding.

His vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
