Cambridge man charged after carrying around hatchet at Kitchener mall

A Cambridge man was charged after carrying a hatchet in Kitchener’s Fairway Park Mall Saturday evening.

Waterloo Regional Police said officers were called to the mall at around 7:50 p.m. After initial investigation, police determined that a man entered a store, acted erratically and carried around a hatchet.

No one was hurt.

Police said they found the man outside the mall and arrested him.

A 30-year-old Cambridge male was charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with a release order
  • Obstructing a police officer

The man was also arrested on two outstanding warrants and held by police for a bail hearing.
