People in Brantford’s downtown core may notice a new look for some police cruisers.

The Brantford Police Service is rolling out two redesigned police vehicles featuring a Battenburg design.

The Battenburg pattern was created in the United Kingdom to help make police vehicles more visible.

“Utilizing this new design is an important step in strengthening our engagement efforts in the downtown core,” Brantford Police Chief Jason Saunders said in a news release. “The Battenburg design makes our vehicles more noticeable, which not only improves safety but also reinforces our commitment to being accessible and visible to the public.”

The vehicles will be used by the police’s Core Engagement and Response Team. The unit primarily patrols the plaza at 50 Market Street South, 1100 Clarence Street and parts of Market Street South. The team is made up of sworn officers and special constables.
