The Ontario Provincial Police detachment in Brant County is investigating several incidents of minors sharing inappropriate photos.
Investigators said the images were shared with people the children knew as well as unknown recipients.
Although police did not provide specifics on the individual incidents, they said these situations can quickly escalate, possibly leading to scams, extortion or grooming.
It begins with someone attempting to build trust with minors to exploit them, often leading to inappropriate content or in-person meetings.
Parents are urged to speak with their children about the risks of sharing personal information and photos online, and educate them on grooming tactics such as flattery and gift giving.
If a child is targeted, police urge parents not to engage with the suspect and save all evidence. Police should be contacted immediately.
