Here’s a look at some of the wild weather stories making headlines this past week.
Tornadoes
Close to 100 tornadoes tore through 14 states, including an EF-4 tornado in Arkansas.
It was part of a three-day tornado outbreak that killed at least 40 people and leveled communities from the deep south, north through the midwest and up into Pennsylvania.
Storm surveys indicate three EF-4 tornadoes with estimated wind speeds between 260 and 320 km/h.
Wildfires
No tornadoes were reported in Oklahoma. That state has been dealing with dry conditions and strong wind, fueling wildfires.
At least four people have been killed and hundreds injured in the wildfires. As many as 400 homes were damaged in the wildfire outbreak and evacuation orders were in place for a number of communities.
The fires burned almost 180,000 acres.
Cyclones
There was flooding in Mozambique thanks to cyclone Jude.
The storm dumped more than 200 ml, or over 20 cm of rain on coastal areas.
The cyclone had wind speeds equivalent to a Category 1 hurricane and it’s the third cyclone to hit Mozambique this season.
Six deaths have been linked to cyclone Jude and the storm destroyed close to 1,000 homes.
