Three people have been charged after a gas station employee in eastern Alberta had their vehicle stolen at gunpoint on Sunday.
Mounties got a report of the robbery at 5 a.m. that morning.
A person entered the Petro Canada in Vegreville and pointed a gun at the employee, demanding money.
Ultimately the thief got away with the employee’s purse and car keys.
Three people got into the employee’s vehicle and took off toward Edmonton.
When RCMP tried to stop the vehicle on Highway 16, the driver refused to stop.
There was a short chase, and the vehicle lost control, striking a fence at Elk Island National Park.
One person was arrested with the vehicle and two more ran from the scene.
Police tracked them down with the help of RCMP police dogs.
After the arrests police determined the gun used in the robbery was a pellet gun.
Two 29-year-old Edmonton men and a 38-year-old Cold Lake man have been charged with robbery, intimidation, theft of motor vehicle, flight from police and obstruction.
“I am extremely proud of my members in Vegreville,” Staff Sgt. Colin Folk said in a news release.
“Their quick response and composure resulted in three individuals being arrested without injury to my members, the general public and the suspects.”
The men remain in custody with a court date to be set in Vegreville.
