A person died in a fire in downtown Edmonton early Friday morning.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services said crews received a call about a “person on fire” at 3:12 a.m. and arrived at 96 Street and Jasper Avenue within three minutes.
EFRS confirmed a person was on fire, but directed all other questions to police.
The Edmonton Police Service confirmed the person had died, adding they caught fire because they were handling “flammable material.”
Police could not confirm the person’s housing status.
The death is being considered non-criminal.
The scene was cleared by 6 a.m.
