Edmonton police are searching for a man they say may have fallen into the river earlier this week.
Emergency crews were called to the North Saskatchewan River by Government House Park at 2 p.m. on Wednesday for a report of a lone dog on the ice in the river.
It was reported that a man had been walking with the dog on the riverbank in the area.
Police found an empty truck nearby that is believed to belong to the missing man, identified as Seyem Gaim, 31.
Investigators believe he may have fallen into the river while trying to rescue the dog.
“As we continue to actively search for Mr. Gaim, we are hopeful that a member of the public might have seen him throughout the community or at Government House Park on Wednesday,” Const. Cassandra Grant said in a news release.
“The return of winter conditions are particularly challenging throughout all parts of the city. As we all wait for the warm weather to come back, we would like to remind all Edmontonians to remain vigilant, whether it’s on our roads or around our waterways.”
Gaim is described as having a bald head with a longer beard.
He is 5′8″, 150 lbs with a medium build.
He was last seen wearing jeans, a grey and white jacket, a ballcap with a black rim and dark shoes.
Anyone with information about Gaim’s whereabouts is asked to call the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567.
