A local bakery had the honour of whipping up a birthday cake for Oilers captain Connor McDavid and winger Connor Brown.
The double Connor cake, donned in dark blue icing and edible silver pearls, featured photos of the two players on top of the cake when they played for the Ontario Hockey League’s Erie Otters. They played two seasons together in 2012-13 and 2013-14.
Wild Rose Cakes owner Kristianna Squirechuk says the order came at the last minute on Friday, but was prepared to make their vision come to life.
“It was incredibly exciting. I’m not going to lie. We are a huge hockey family, we love hockey, we love Connor McDavid so it was really exciting,” Squirechuk told CTV News Edmonton on Monday.
She says McDavid’s wife, Lauren Kyle, asked for the cake to be gluten-free and gave her the freedom to choose the flavour.
“It was chocolate salted caramel, it’s sort of a crowd pleaser,” Squirechuk said.
A joint birthday celebration was held over the weekend for McDavid and Brown. The three-time league MVP turned 28 on Jan. 13. Brown turned 31 on Jan. 14.
