The wind has finally backed off in the Edmonton area this morning.
After gusts in the 40-70 km/h range most of Tuesday and through into the wee hours of this morning, we’ll settle in the 10-20 km/h range for the remainder of today.
But, the wind won’t stay quiet for long. Both Thursday and Friday will be on the gusty side.
It doesn’t look like it’ll be as strong as Tuesday...but gusts in the 30 to 50 km/h range are likely across most of central and northern Alberta, including Edmonton and area.
Flurries will taper off this morning in Edmonton and we’ll get some sun breaking through the clouds this afternoon.
Thursday could see a similar pattern as a trough of low pressure sweeps across northern Alberta. That’ll bring the risk of some heavier snow to northeastern Alberta Thursday.
In Edmonton, we’ll get some increasing cloud overnight...a decent chance of some flurries Thursday morning and then sunny breaks in the afternoon.
A few areas of high pressure start to take over the pattern through the weekend, so we should get some sunnier conditions.
AND...there’s a push of some really warm air set to move in starting on Sunday.
Temperatures will get to within a degree or two of the freezing mark for each of the next few days (mornings in the -5 to -10 C range in the city...slight cooler outside the city).
THEN...we’re likely a handful of degrees above 0 C for Sunday/Monday in Edmonton and areas to the west and northwest.
That probably won’t last for more than two or three days, but even the back half of next week doesn’t look COLD, just back closer to the seasonal average.
Main takeaways:
- Enjoy the break from the wind today, it’ll be gusty again Thursday/Friday.
- Above-average temperatures for the next five to seven days with a few days above 0 C (particularly Sunday/Monday).
- No significant snowfall after this morning’s flurries move out.
