The town of Jasper's director of recovery says he's seeking the Liberal nomination in the Yellowhead riding.

The man leading the wildfire recovery effort for the Town of Jasper hopes to run in the upcoming federal election.

Michael Fark, the town’s director of recovery, has confirmed to CTV News Edmonton that he is seeking the nomination as the Liberal candidate in the Yellowhead riding in western Alberta.

The seat is currently held by Conservative Gerald Soroka.

Prior to Fark’s employment in Jasper he was the general manager of municipal infrastructure for the Town of Canmore.

He has also worked for the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders.

A spokesperson for Fark says his priorities include protecting and stewarding Canada’s natural resources, with a focus on water.

The writ was dropped by Mark Carney on March 23.

The election will be held on April 28.
